The new version of Xfer Serum brings a lot of new functions, expanding the sound design capabilities and making the synth incredibly versatile. Let’s dive into the top 8 improvements!
1. Filters & Routing
Serum now includes 2 filters, including simple routing of its 5 sound source modules. Plenty of new filter types have been added, including a fully customizable shape editor.

2. Sample Oscillators
Serum now has 3 oscillators, which can be swapped for samplers, and even Kontakt style multisamples! Now it’s easier than ever before to layer synths with one-shots, or import multiple velocity layers per note.

3. Granular & Spectral Oscillators
Oscillators now include Granular and Spectral synthesis modes for incredibly unique sounds. Granular mode allows you to create shimmering pads and intricate textures, while Spectral mode uses resynthesis and allows for crazy creative manipulation.

4. Arpeggiator
The built-in arpeggiator allows for 12 advanced patterns, triggered via MIDI notes. There’s even an editor for creating custom arp phrases!

5. Sequencer
Sequencing up to 12 piano roll clips allows complete performances within the plugin. You can record your phrases or draw them in, including velocity changes and features like quantization.

6. New LFO Modes
The updated LFO modes include Path, Lorenz, Rossler and S&H for unique modulation. Sample and Hold is the classic LFO type, while the Path mode allows you to draw in custom shapes. Chaos modes (Lorenz and Rossler) are also very interesting, with circular curves delivering unpredictability.

7. Mixer & FX Chains
The mixer allows easy gain setting and routing sound sources into filters and FX Bus 1 & 2. It allows for a quick overview of levels, as well as quick bypass of effects on all 3 chains.

8. FX Chains
Now you can create up to 3 huge FX chains and even use multiple instances of the same effect! Notable new effects include the Bode (frequency shifter), Convolve (convolution reverb), frequency splitters and many updates to previously present effects.
