Renzo Zong – Behind the Scenes of Live DJ Set @ Akatsuki
Written by ADMIN on 26/04/2025
For Peruvian DJ and Producer Renzo Zong, each performance is more than a set—it’s an extension of his evolving sound and the diverse influences that have shaped it. Rooted in Tribal and Organic House, and more recently venturing into Afro House, Renzo’s style is fluid, drawing from his travels, experiences, and a natural inclination toward rhythmic exploration.
His latest YouTube session, recorded at an Akatsuki event, offers a closer look at how he crafts atmosphere and connection in a live setting. We sat down with Renzo to talk about the inspiration behind the performance, the intention behind the music, and what lies ahead in his journey.
Hi Renzo Zong, how’s it going?
Happy and excited to be here with you!
To begin, how would you describe the experience of performing at the Akatsuki event? What did the night mean to you personally?
Since school, I have always been connected to music through dance and artistic activities. My nomadic nature has made music an essential part of my life, influenced by every experience and place I’ve visited. I started exploring Deep House, then moved into Tech House, and later delved into Downtempo and Ambient music, which allowed me to experiment with more atmospheric sounds. I was also drawn to Organic House for its fusion of ethnic and natural elements. Currently, I’m focused on Afro House, a genre that allows me to connect with tribal rhythms and explore raw, intense sounds.
What inspired the recording and release of this live video?
I wanted to capture the energy of my live performance and the connection with the audience, showing people dancing along with me. Additionally, this video is part of Akatsuki, the new brand I’m building. Having it on YouTube allows more people to discover my work and connect with my sound, even if they haven’t seen me perform live.
Before the event, did you have a direction in mind for how you wanted the set to evolve?
I had no idea how it would go, I just went with the flow while looking through the folders I had…
When preparing your set, what were you looking for in the tracks you selected? Were you aiming to tell a particular story, reflect a certain mood, or highlight specific influences through your choices?
When preparing my set, what I do is have organized folders with the styles and sounds I like. Then, I listen to the music in the moment and choose the tracks that I feel fit the vibe and flow I want to create at that time.
For you, how do you feel this DJ set brings your signature style to life?
Definitely! This set is completely filled with my essence. Every track I selected reflects my style and the energy that defines me. It was like a blend of everything I’m passionate about.
When it comes to pacing and designing immersive experiences through your DJ sets, what does your approach look like?
My approach is very dynamic. I’m always navigating through different sounds, sometimes more tribal, other times more romantic, dark, ethnic, explosive, or Latino. The truth is, there’s a bit of everything! I like to keep the energy constantly shifting to make the experience unique in every moment.
What do you hope people take away from watching your performance — especially those who might be seeing or hearing you for the first time?
What I hope most is that people connect with the energy of the performance and enjoy the music in an authentic way. For those who see or hear me for the first time, I’d love for them to take away that feeling of excitement and freedom.
Were there any surprises or moments during the performance that unfolded differently than you’d anticipated?
No surprises, everything went as planned.
Finally, you’ve hinted at new studio work on the horizon — can you share any details on what we can expect to hear from you next?
After a long time, I’m finally releasing new music! This time it’ll be through one of my favorite labels, MoBlack Records.
Renzo Zong’s Akatsuki session captures a moment that feels both intimate and expansive—reflecting the openness of his approach and the depth of his musical perspective. Whether flowing through tribal rhythms or shifting into more textured, ambient sounds, his DJ sets maintain a clear sense of identity and motion.
With new music on the way via MoBlack Records, Renzo’s journey continues to unfold with purpose; for listeners discovering him for the first time, this performance offers a strong introduction to an artist who finds meaning in movement and connection through sound.
