NewJeans drop new song ‘Ditto’ from second project ‘OMG’

Written by on 19/12/2022

Rookie K-pop girl group NewJeans have released ‘Ditto’, a B-side from their upcoming single album ‘OMG’.

On December 19 at 6PM KST, NewJeans unveiled a pair of visuals for their new track ‘Ditto’, which has also been released digitally. The song is described as a “spin on Baltimore club dance music with an old-school drum break” by their label ADOR in a press release, and features lyrics written by NewJeans’ leader Minji – her first-ever writing credit.

‘Ditto’ is the B-side of the group’s upcoming first single album titled ‘OMG’. The two-song record is due out January 2 with its lead track of the same name.

Set in a high school, the music videos for ‘Ditto’ revolve around a character named Hee Soo (played by All Of Us Are Dead star Park Ji-hu), a friend of NewJeans’, who films the group between lessons and during their after-school activities. The videos also feature All Of Us Are Dead‘s Choi Hyun-wook as Hee Soo’s unnamed love interest.

Stay in the middle / Like you a little / Don’t want no riddle / Say it, say it back / Oh say it, ditto,” NewJeans sing in the dreamy chorus.

‘OMG’ will be NewJeans’ first-ever comeback since the quintet debuted with their self-titled EP earlier this year. The rookie girl group followed an unconventional release rollout, in which the music video for their debut single ‘Attention’ was released on YouTube without prior announcement.

This was later followed by visuals for their second single ‘Hype Boy’ and B-side track ‘Hurt’, before the record’s third single ‘Cookie’ arrived on August 1 with the digital release of their EP.

The EP’s second single ‘Hype Boy’ was ranked Number 26 on NME’s list of 50 best songs of 2022, with Rhian Daly describing the track as “the jewel in their crown”, praising its “flashes of ‘90s R&B melded with modern pop production.”
