Hi LUCRE, how are you?
I’m well thank you! Thanks for having me!
To begin, can you tell us how the idea for this track first came to you?
I’ve been interested in creating minimal Techno tracks that incorporate Hip-Hop or Rap vocals. It’s a unique blend that offers listeners a fresh take, providing them with lyrics to vibe to while maintaining the essence of Techno.
Can you walk us through your production process for ‘My $h!t’? What was the first element you started with, and how did the track evolve as you built around it?
My first priority was selecting a Rap vocal that was gritty, aggressive, and hard-hitting. From there, I chose to pair it with a choir vocal, which felt unconventional but added an intriguing contrast that I liked. Once the vocal elements were in place, the rest of the track came together. I set out to create something distinct for a Techno track, and I believe I was able to capture that unique sound.
The dark, textural synths play a key role in the track. Can you share how you crafted these sounds?
I’m not opposed to using samples when they fit the vision. If I come across a sample I like, I rely on a specific set of “trademark” plug-ins and audio effects within Ableton to shape the sound. These tools help me achieve the dark, industrial vibe I gravitate toward, adding depth and texture to the track.
What tools or plugins played a crucial role in your production of ‘My $h!t’?
I can’t give away all my secrets!
What was the thought process behind arranging the track’s structure and flow? How did you ensure the sonic journey remained engaging for listeners?
Once the vocal is in place, I approach any track from start to finish. I begin with the intro—especially for the extended version, which tends to be more detailed—and work all the way through to the end. Generally, if I can complete any track in one session, it’s a sign that it’s something I’ll be happy with. If I find myself repeatedly revisiting and making changes, it’s usually an indication that I’m not feeling it and I don’t think my listeners will feel it either.
The pounding beat anchors the track. What role do you feel it plays in shaping the overall energy of ‘My $h!t’?
The kick is a fundamental element in Techno, and it’s crucial for me that it hits HARD. Every time!
Did you experiment with any new techniques or sounds while creating this track?
The combination of the choir vocal with the rap vocal was a new approach for me. It’s an unconventional pairing, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out.
How do you think this track reflects your growth as an artist since your career began in 2020?
They often say that the music you create when you first start out isn’t the best lol, and looking back, I can definitely see how far I’ve come! But evolution is an essential part of the process. I didn’t hesitate to release my work, and I’m proud to showcase how much my sound has developed over time. The progress is clear when comparing my current music to where I started.
Have you had the opportunity to play the track live yet? If so, how was it received?
Not yet but I will be soon!
The vocal element in ‘My $h!t’ adds a hypnotic layer to the track. Was using a vocal something you planned from the beginning, or did the idea come together later in the production process?
Absolutely, from the very beginning. It’s been fun experimenting with vocals that deviate from the typical norms of my genre.
Finally, can you share what’s up next for LUCRE? Are there any more releases coming soon?
2025 is shaping up to be a year of significant progress for me. I’m releasing music more frequently, perhaps even more than what’s normal, because I want my work to be heard. I’ve got some exciting projects in the pipeline that I’m eager to share!
