About Us
“The primary purpose of Radio Lanka Online (www.radiolankaonline.com), now rebranded as Radio 44 Ceylon, was to create a unique platform that connected Sri Lankans living abroad with their cultural roots. Unlike traditional FM channels focused mainly on entertainment, this web radio aimed to offer a meaningful and enduring connection to Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, culture, and history. The purpose was to serve Sri Lankans worldwide who might feel isolated in foreign countries, helping them stay connected with their homeland through familiar music, cultural programs, and live events. The station’s offerings, particularly songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, were carefully selected to resonate with this audience, providing comfort and a sense of belonging no matter where they were in the world.
Additionally, the platform sought to promote Sri Lanka’s unique heritage globally, bringing awareness to the country’s rich history, culture, and values. By offering programs on Sri Lankan culture, archaeology, and Buddhist philosophy, the station aimed to educate and inspire both Sri Lankans and the international community. The ultimate goal was to contribute to the global understanding of Sri Lanka and to serve as a bridge between the homeland and the diaspora.”
